2012 Conference Honolulu
William J. Doherty, Ph.D.
Friday March 16, 2012 8:30am - 4:00pm
Most workshops focus only about what to do make therapy effective. But we all know that mistakes are common in therapy, and perhaps particularly in couples therapy, which Jay Haley once said is the most difficult of all types of therapy to do well. This workshop will identify the most common screw-ups therapists make in couples therapy, and demonstrate ways to avoid them. There will be something for both beginning and experienced therapists, who tend to make different mistakes. The workshop will features clips of from movies, some of them hilarious, and a video demonstration of a way to work with a kind of couple who are often poorly served in couples therapy: ambivalent couples on the brink of divorce. This highly practical workshop will make your couples therapy more effective, whatever your model.
